Our Story

How it all started...

In 1986, a small group of believers decided to form a new fellowship in Clearwater. Motivated by a desire to grow in Christ, know the Word of God, and reach the lost, this group began meeting in the Clearwater Middle School’s auditorium.

In 1987, the decision was made to become a part of the Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA), and eventually the name “Clearwater Evangelical Free Church” was adopted.

Also, in 1987, the newly formed church purchased a storefront at 115 West Ross in downtown Clearwater. After renovations, this building served as our meeting place for 10 years.

Through the years...

As God blessed the teaching of His word and fellowship of this group of believers, the need for a larger facility became apparent. Finding suitable land that was also affordable proved difficult. However, in confirmation of His leading, the Lord provided the ten acres on which the CEFC building stands. For those that lived through it, these were miraculous events.

Clearwater Evangelical Free Church has been meeting in its current location since 1997.

Our first pastor was called in 1988, and, in total, four pastors have served here.

Why CEFC...?

Besides warm fellowship and family, CEFC is characterized by verse-by-verse teaching of the Bible. This type of teaching seeks to explain what the Bible says and apply it to life. This gives CEFC a uniquely “Biblical” approach that has proven to be a strength and blessing. In the pages of the Bible, we find knowledge and wisdom for life, and in fellowship, we find encouragement and comfort in the challenges that we all face.

CEFC has always been a fun place. We have featured fun-filled children’s ministries, including VBS and summer camps. Our youth group also is consistently full and robust. Summer mission trips, discipleship camp, and weekly food and fun draw young people from the broader community. The result has been that our youth have grown up to be strong, godly, and healthy adults. A number have gone into ministry, some serving overseas as missionaries.
